King’s High School has won 38 team state championships in the past 20 years. In the classroom, King’s High School has also been working very hard with 28 academic state championships since 2002. This combination of excellence in athletics and in the classroom is one of many things that makes King’s a special place.
The success that King’s athletics has had over the years is due to the commitment of our student athletes, first-class coaches, and supportive fans. To be a student athlete at King’s High School requires a great deal of time and energy to balance the academic load with the time required on the field or the court to excel. Our coaches are the best in the state with multiple league and state level coaches of the year. Our parents, teachers, administrators, and fans are passionate supporters of King’s athletics and play an important role in the success of our programs.
King’s High School offers a variety of sports for both boys and girls. Our boys’ sports programs include football, basketball, soccer, track & field, cross country, golf and baseball. On the girls’ side, we offer basketball, soccer, volleyball, track & field, cross country, tennis and cheer.
While winning games is a high priority for our athletic department, learning valuable life lessons through the participation in sports is the ultimate goal. We believe that participation in sports closely models life itself and provides an opportunity for kids to grow and mature into adulthood. Some of the lessons our student athletes are taught through participation in sports include: teamwork, commitment, discipline, servant leadership, hard work, toughness, sportsmanship, perseverance, and sacrifice. Our head football coach, Jim Shapiro, summarizes it best when he says, “Building champions while pursuing championships.” We are really here to build young men and women of character and to prepare them for the journey of life that lies ahead of them.
