Integrating Faith and Learning

Academics

The academic program at King's Junior High serves as an effective bridge between elementary school and high school. And, led by a passionate, qualified faculty, it consistently brings Christian learning into academic learning in a way that guides students toward a broader worldview based on God's truth.

Building on the solid foundational experience of King's Elementary, our high quality, engaging curriculum prepares students for the rigors of our college preparatory high school. Students study the core subjects of math, science, English, social studies, physical education and Bible in single gender classes that allow teachers to meet the unique learning and social needs of boys and girls more effectively. We carefully review the curriculum every year for content and relevance.

A variety of exciting elective classes are available to complement the core academic curriculum. Honors math classes are available to qualifying students, and Spanish I and Washington State History fulfill high school graduation requirements. We offer a limited scope of academic services to students who have mild learning disabilities. King's students take the Terra Nova 3 standardized test every spring and traditionally score well above the national norm.

Visual and Performing Arts

The visual and performing arts programs at King's are one of the best ways students can express their God-given creativity and talents. Through art classes, drama classes, a culinary arts class, choir and more, students are encouraged to learn from basic to advanced skills, and "showcase" their talents in a variety of venues. For example:

  • Beginning drama students perform in the popular "Afternoon Theater" production and advanced students perform in the delightful "Cookies and Classics" presentation;
  • Art students participate in the annual artists' reception and showcase, and students in the culinary arts class, Lifestyles, prepare, cook and serve tasteful foods;
  • Celebration, the select vocal ensemble, performs in chapels and concerts throughout the year. Celebration also participates in jazz festivals and missions outreach.
