Sheri Lopez

Class of 1979

After graduating from King’s in 1979, Sheri Lopez went on to graduate from the University of Washington with a BA in Society and Justice. In 1984, Sheri joined the Washington State Patrol as a Communications Officer and fourteen years later accepted a position as an Enforcement Officer for the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board in Snohomish County. Sheri currently resides in Spokane, WA with her husband, Jeff, and their five beloved rescue dogs. Sheri also serves as the Captain of the Eastern Region in Spokane, overseeing 24 officers. This year, Sheri was presented the 2019 Leadership Award for the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board Enforcement Division.

During her time at King’s Garden (now known as King’s Schools) Sheri was involved in the Chorale, Living Faith, and drama. Through her education and experience with these departments, Sheri was able to build her character in Christ and greatly develop her passion to serve others. Regarding her time at King’s Sheri says, “I have no doubt that my high school experience at King’s Garden shaped my servant’s heart. Police officers spend their careers helping others but usually aren’t very good at reaching-out when they need help.” Because of her desire to aid her community, and more specifically her fellow police officers, Sheri launched a Peer Support Team for her agency.

One of Sheri’s most memorable moments from King’s was the school trip to Washington D.C. with her history teacher, Sandra Smith. Sheri cites Sandra Smith as her most influential teacher from high school: “She was the first teacher who allowed us to call her by her first name. I wasn’t then, and still am not today, interested in history (sorry Sandra!), but I appreciate the way she treated us like young adults and taught us by example how we should treat each other.” This way of thinking carried on to Sheri’s career as a police officer as she was motivated to treat others with respect and actively search for challenges to try and overcome.

In addition to being a valuable member of the police force, Sheri and her husband Jeff own a wood-fire pizza trailer and spend some of their spare time catering events for family, friends, churches, and charities. Sheri also has earned her Advanced Certificate in Floral Design and hopes to pursue her passion for creating beautiful floral arrangements after her retirement a few years from now.  For the senior class at King’s this year, Sheri offers some important advice: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3).
