Building Champions While Pursuing Championships

King’s School turns Seattle’s finest students into unrivaled academics and excellent athletes.

At King’s Schools, our commitment to excellence extends beyond academics. Our goal is to create well-rounded students ready to tackle any challenges that come their way.

Our athletics department strives to instill lifelong lessons and skills through sports. Our students spend their time outside of the classroom learning teamwork, commitment, perseverance, and more in their chosen sport. Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Rick Skeen shares more insight on the program in his message to parents and students.

King’s Schools’ students are equipped with the skills they need to balance academics with athletics and flourish while doing so. In the wise words of our head football coach, Jim Shapiro, King’s Schools’ athletics program is all about “building champions while pursuing championships.”

The Best Private High School Basketball Team In Seattle

Ready to play for the winning team? The King’s Schools Basketball Program is the finest in Seattle, with junior and varsity teams ready to sculpt athletes of any measure into champions. Interested students can participate in tryouts where they can discuss their desired positions with coaches who steer them toward athletic greatness. Keep an eye on both the girls’ and boys’ basketball team schedules to learn when tryouts begin.

Our student-athletes demonstrate tremendous fitness that ensures we remain the top Seattle high school basketball team. Coaches will evaluate students based on strength, speed, dexterity, dribbling, shooting, passing, and blocking. Students are carefully monitored and corrected by coaches as they demonstrate their proficiency in Basketball.

Once students have demonstrated their athletic prowess, our basketball coaches sort them into respective teams and assign them positions. Students often discuss their desired positions with coaches beforehand and are sorted based on ability and preference. Practice begins shortly after the teams have been formed, with great accomplishments growing closer in the distance. Welcome to the Knights!

Championships

Since 2002, King’s Schools has been a proud recipient of over 50 state championships. From Seattle high school football to cross country to golf, our students bring a whole new meaning to teamwork as they excel together in their chosen sports.

Individually, our basketball teams are outstanding champions. Recently, our girls’ varsity basketball team took home the win at the Emerald Sound Conference Tournament, while our boys’ basketball team brought home the state championship in 2020.

Meet the Coaches

Head Coaches

Commitment, discipline, and toughness are key characteristics you’ll find among our boys’ high school basketball teams, all thanks to our head coach, Rick Skeen. Coach Skeen has joined the ranks of King’s Schools fine coaches with the hope that he can “influence young men’s lives to become servant leaders who make a difference in our world for Christ.”

Since 2009, the girls’ basketball teams have had the honor of working with head coach Dan Taylor. In 2011, Coach Dan brought the Knights to victory with an Academic State Championship. The following spring, Coach Taylor was elected the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association President.
