Building Champions While Pursuing Championships

Being a part of a high school football team is an experience unlike any other

At King’s Schools, our commitment to excellence extends beyond academics. Our goal is to create well-rounded students ready to tackle any challenges that come their way.

Our athletics department strives to instill lifelong lessons and skills through sports. Our students spend their time outside of the classroom learning teamwork, commitment, perseverance, and more in their chosen sport. Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Rick Skeen shares more insight on the program in his message to parents and students.

King’s Schools’ students are equipped with the skills they need to balance academics with athletics and flourish while doing so. In the wise words of our head football coach, Jim Shapiro, King’s Schools’ athletics program is all about “building champions while pursuing championships.”

Joining the Team

Interested in being a part of our Seattle high school football team? You’ve come to the right place! At King’s School, we offer both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. As tryouts approach, you’ll want to take some time to consider what position you’d like to play. While our coaches may separate you into groups based on your physical capabilities, you’ll also have a chance to express your desired position.

When tryouts roll around, you’ll be assessed based on a variety of factors that make our Seattle high school football team one of the best. These will include kicking, blocking, catching, and throwing. Your speed and physical strength will also be considered during this time. Over the course of a few days, our coaches will evaluate every potential player and choose which team and position will best suit each one. From there, you’ll receive your placement and begin practices. Welcome to the team!

Championships

King’s Schools is a proud recipient of over 50 state championships since 2002. From Seattle high school football to cross country to golf, our students bring a whole new meaning to teamwork as they excel together in their chosen sports.

In addition to the monumental athletic state championships won, our Varsity team has achieved another outstanding feat — WIAA Academic State Champions. The team has received this honor a total of nine times since 2009. We couldn’t be more proud of the athletic and academic achievements of our Seattle high school football players.

Meet the Coaches

Head Coach
When it comes to Seattle high school football coaching, no one does it better than our very own Jim Shapiro. Coach Shapiro has earned the honor of Coach of the Year by the league six times since 1999 — and we know exactly why. In his 27 years coaching at King’s Schools, Shapiro’s hard work and dedication has earned him the title of the NFL Seahawk Coach of the Week, National Football Foundation Coach of the Year, Washington State Coach of the Year, and King’s Schools’ favorite head football coach!

Assistant Coaches
Our head coach is supported by an incredible crew of assistant coaches. Our coaches work tirelessly to ensure that our football players grow and thrive both on and off the field. They manage practice schedules, monitor team performance, help every single player hone their skills, and more. These inspiring assistant coaches are Roy Colman Jr, Dave Taylor, Duncan Cull, Caleb Taylor, Edmund Sundquist, Zander Evans, Kobe McDaniel, Ben Hermes, Taylor Shoenfeld, James Ronneberg, Joe Stack, and Tom Luehmann.

Director of Football Operations
Last but certainly not least, we have our Director of Football Operations Sam Roach. Sam oversees the entire football program, ensuring that our students learn from their private high school football experience in Seattle and have fun doing so.
