Corey Kispert, a former King’s Schools student and NBA sensation, is set to return to his alma mater on Wednesday, December 20th. He’ll be there to retire his jersey number 24 and connect with his loyal hometown fans.
During his junior year at King’s, Kispert led the team to their second consecutive state title and earned the title of MVP in the State Championship Tournament. His impressive performance as a four-star recruit led him to commit to playing college basketball at Gonzaga after his junior season.
At Gonzaga, Kispert made a significant impact, playing in all 35 games with seven starts as a freshman and becoming a starter in his sophomore season for the Bulldogs. He began his junior season on the watchlist for the Julius Erving Award and was Gonzaga’s only returning starter from the previous year. Kispert’s senior year at Gonzaga was especially remarkable, as he was named a Senior Class First Team All-American. His outstanding achievements extended beyond the court, earning him recognition for his contributions in the classroom, community, character, and competition. Kispert also received the West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor and played in the NCAA Final Four. Following the season, he declared for the 2020 NBA draft but ultimately returned for his senior season, where he averaged 18.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, helping lead the Zags to the national championship game and a remarkable 31-1 record. He was also named to the Preseason All-West Coast Conference team.
In the 2021 NBA draft, Kispert was selected as the 15th overall pick by the Washington Wizards. He made his NBA debut on October 22nd and had an impressive rookie campaign, playing in 77 games and starting 36.
Corey Kispert’s journey embodies excellence on and off the court, aligning with King’s Athletics commitment to building a legacy of champions for Christ. Join the King’s community in celebrating this remarkable legacy at Corey Kispert Night on Wednesday, December 20th, at Mike Martin Gym. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. with food trucks, a pregame celebration, jersey retirement at 5 p.m., and the King’s Boys Basketball facing off against Bear Creek at 6:00 p.m.
